Annabella Di Giorgio

About

Annabella Di Giorgio graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1998 and she received the title of Certified Psychiatrist in 2002. She earned both of her degrees from the University of Catania, Italy. From 2000 to 2005 she attended the Transactional Analysis School of Psychotherapy Auximon in Rome, Italy. In 2007 she obtained a master’s degree in Affective Neuroscience from the University of Maastricht, Netherlands; and in 2008 she completed a four-year International PhD program in Neurobiology at the University of Catania, Italy. In 1999/2000 and in 2001/2002, Dr. Di Giorgio was an academic visitor at the Institute of Psychiatry - King's College, University of London, United Kingdom, where she was involved in research and clinical training, both at the Section of Neurobiology of Affective Disorders and Neuroimaging. In 2005 she worked as an independent contractor for the Clinical Brain Disorders Branch, NIMH, NIH (Bethesda, Maryland, USA). From 2008 to 2010 she worked as a research associate at the Department of Neuroscience, University of Catania, Italy. From 2003 to 2019 she collaborated on scientific projects with Professor Alessandro Bertolino at the Department of Basic Medical Science, Neuroscience and Sense Organs, University of Bari "Aldo Moro", Italy. From 2018 to 2019 she was Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Polytechnic University of Marche. She has been working as a consultant in Psychiatry at “IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza”, San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia), Italy since 2009. Dr. Di Giorgio’s main area of research interest is in imaging genetics and its application to the study of psychiatric disorders, mainly psychosis. She has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers in leading neuroscience and psychiatric journals. She was also an invited speaker at a number of international scientific meetings, and has won several fellowship awards, travel grants and poster awards. In 2006 she was awarded a research grant for young researchers from the Italian Society of Neuroscience.
